Melbourne Eparchy supports families of fallen heroes in Slavutych
August 16, 2024
Recently, families in Slavutych who lost their loved ones in the war received food parcels from the Melbourne Eparchy as part of the charitable initiative of the Patriarchal Foundation ‘Wise Deed’.
In June of this year, Bishop Mykola Bychok, during his visit to Ukraine, visited Slavutych, a city that was under occupation at the beginning of the war. The bishop handed over food parcels from the Melbourne Eparchy to Father Yuriy Logaza, parish priest of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Slavutych, which were packed as part of the humanitarian initiative of the Patriarchal Foundation ‘Wise Deed’. Recently, 23 families of Ukrainian servicemen killed in the war who live in Slavutych gathered in the church, where they were able to receive these food parcels in addition to spiritual support. On behalf of these families, Fr. Yuriy Logaza conveyed sincere gratitude to Bishop Mykola and the Melbourne Eparchy for their assistance.
The charity event in Slavutych is part of a broader initiative of the Patriarchal Foundation ‘Wise Deed’ aimed at helping those in need in Ukraine. For more than two years, the Foundation has managed to provide 336,888 people with the most necessary necessities.
On the 900th day of the war, the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, on behalf of “Wise Deed”, called on all those who care to help feed the hungry this winter: ‘For almost three years in a row, we have been creating the necessary ecosystems of Ukraine’s economic life to feed the needy Ukrainians, but with the Ukrainian food that we have today and that the “Wise Deed” Foundation supplies to our parishes in Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, and the south of the country every week, feeding millions.’ His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked everyone who helps and urged them not to get tired of this help because the next winter may be much harder than the previous ones.
We remind you that each of you can contribute to helping those in need in Ukraine by donating to the activities of the Patriarchal Foundation ‘Wise Deed’ in the boxes located in our churches in Australia or by using the details on the official website of the organisation.
